​Legalization and certification of corporate and personal documents

UAE acceded to the Treaty on Apostille(The Hague Convention of 5 October 1961), abolishing the need for consular legalization and all documents to be officially certified, must undergo full legalization procedures through the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy / consulate for country of origin of the document (for use in Emirates) or the embassy / consulate of the country, for which the documents are intended (for documents that issued in the UAE).

The legalization of foreign documents for use in the UAE

Documents for individuals:

Documents for individuals such as birth certificate, marriage certificate, issued in any other country are intended for use in the Emirates must undergo the following procedure:

  1. A notarized copy of the document.
  2. Legalized (notarized) translation of the document into English or Arabic, if the document is issued in another language.

Documents of legal entities, such as the registration certificate, an extract from the Register, licenses issued outside the UAE for use in the Emirates must undergo the following procedure:

  1. A notarized copy of the document.
  2. Legalized (notarized) translation of the document into English or Arabic, if the document is issued in another language.
  3. Certification of the Ministry of Justice (for some countries). For the UK and the British territories (BVI, Jersey, Guernsey and others.) This part deals with the certification Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in London.

The standard procedure of certification includes the following steps:

  1. Legalized translation into English (if the document is issued only in Arabic).
  2. The above translation must be certified by the state body that issued the original document (birth certificate - Ministry of Health, Certificate of Education - Ministry of Education).
  3. Document and translation shall be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.
  4. Document and legalized translation shall be certified by the Consulate of the country for destination to use the document.

  1. Free Zone and international companies - international companies register. A copy can be obtained only through a registered agent treatment, (eg, BISA FZE).

The cost of certification of legal entities of documents issued in the UAE, is also different from the certification documents of individuals (approximately the cost of one page of the document $ 1500).
